HTC has launched the VIVE Eagle, a pair of AI smart glasses equipped with real time translation and third party assistant integration. The frames pack a 12MP camera, ZEISS optics, and a suite of privacy controls designed to prevent covert recording. Pricing starts at $499 as retail shipments roll out across North America, Europe, and Australia.
The hardware comes in two distinct frame profiles called Square and Pantos, offering transparent color options that earned a Red Dot design award. HTC partnered with ZEISS to supply UV400 sunglass lenses, blue light filtering glass, and adaptive photochromic options, while also supporting custom prescription inserts. The chassis carries an IP54 water resistance rating to handle dust and light rain. Internally, the glasses run on 4GB of RAM to process incoming assistant requests quickly.
Smart glasses often face consumer pushback over covert recording, so HTC focused heavily on external privacy safeguards. A dedicated front LED illuminates whenever the 12MP camera captures photo or 3K vertical video, automatically adjusting its brightness to remain visible in direct sunlight. Internal sensors prevent the camera from operating if the LED is covered or if the user takes the glasses off. Nearby individuals can even speak the phrase Stop filming to halt an active recording instantly.
On the software side, HTC strips personal identifiers from user queries before forwarding them to cloud engines like Google Gemini or OpenAI. Media files remain encrypted on local storage until the user manually syncs them to the VIVE Connect mobile app. The company backed these privacy measures by securing official ISO 27001 and ISO 27701 data management certifications.

The internal VIVE AI system provides real time speech translation across 96 languages and translates visual text from signs or menus in 70 languages. The glasses also capture ambient audio during meetings to produce automated text summaries on demand. Sound reproduction relies on directional open ear speakers that pipe stereo audio directly into the ear canal while minimizing sound leakage to bystanders. A cluster of 4 microphones uses noise reduction algorithms to isolate voice input during outdoor calls.
Active battery life lasts between 4 to 6 hours during continuous audio playback, backed by 36 hours of total standby time. HTC avoided traditional charging cases in favor of a magnetic pogo pin connector that attaches while the user still wears the glasses. The fast charge mechanism restores 50% battery in 10 minutes and 80% in 23 minutes. An optional 8 gram accessory called the VIVE Power Boost clips onto the frame for $49 to supply an additional 80% charge. Base frames retail for $499, with HTC including a 2 year subscription to VIVE AI Plus with every purchase.
