Qualcomm Unveils Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 OnePlus Teases Its First Global Launch of a Phone
At the Qualcomm Summit 2025, one of its newest non-Elite Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 mobile processors was launched along with the Elite 5 the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 processors. OnePlus then teased that it would be the first-ever phone manufactured to use this distinguished non-Elite chip.
Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 Key Specifications
This variant sits unceremoniously below the top-end Elite variant but packs the heroic Oryon cores. Qualcomm provided clock speed information to distinguish both processors:
- Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 (Non-Elite):
- Oryon Prime Cores: 3.8GHz
- Performance Cores: 3.32 GHz
- Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 (comparative):
- Oryon Prime Cores: 4.6 GHz
- Performance Cores: 3.62 GHz
The complete core configuration has not been disclosed yet. However, recent leaks have suggested that the Adreno 835 GPU would rest atop the hardware of the non-Elite Snapdragon 8 Gen 5, which is contrary to the Adreno 840 found in the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5.
OnePlus to Lead with First Global Release
It looks like OnePlus will be the first brand to bring the flagship-grade phone with the non-Elite Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 to market. Li Jie Louis, President of OnePlus, confirmed that this unnamed device has a global launch.
This new phone will be distinct from the OnePlus 15, which is predicted to compete in the top-tier category using the more powerful Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5.
Other brands include Vivo, iQOO, Motorola, and Meizu, whom Qualcomm has states will in the future launch their respective smartphones powered by the non-Elite Snapdragon 8 Gen 5.
