Steam Offers Devs Chocolates Every Year
Valve's Steam platform provides some game developers with annual gifts of luxury chocolates. The practice recently gained attention after an indie creator, using the Reddit username nani_variable, shared a photo of a chocolate box and greeting card from the Steam team.
Sweet Gifts
They ordered chocolates from the high-end chocolatier La Maison Du Chocolat. A 60-piece box can get pretty close to a retail value exceeding €93. However, that doesn't mean every developer on the platform gets those gifts, even the ones who get their games to become quite a huge success.
Reported Tiers and Examples
Giving such presents is said to be contingent on the level of a game's financial success. So, just by way of example, it has been reported that those developers whose games earn annually more than $600,000 would receive a gift possibly worth around $300.
The size of the gift can then grow rather impressively for the high end. The creators of the popular application Wallpaper Engine claimed they got a set weighing around 1.5 kg, valued at roughly $700. With so many chocolates, they usually give away some to friends or unfortunate ones.
