Anthropic has launched Claude Duet, an autonomous artificial intelligence assistant designed to execute complex digital tasks in the background. Running on the Claude Opus 5.5 model, the software links directly with tools like Gmail and Slack while operating a cloud browser to navigate arbitrary websites. The service is currently rolling out in test preview for Pro and Max subscribers in the United States without extra subscription charges.
Claude Duet automates daily routine work across email inboxes and digital calendars. The assistant compiles morning briefings, marks priority messages, and drafts email responses for review. For broader assignments, the software creates research reports, presentations, financial models, and live dashboards. Direct app connections include Gmail, Slack, and select payment utilities. To prevent mistakes, the system pauses and demands explicit user confirmation before sending messages, completing financial payments, signing documents, or deleting stored files.
Users monitor ongoing jobs through a dedicated Tasks interface that highlights where manual human decisions are needed. Claude Duet alerts users inside the main chat when a job finishes, but only the account owner holds the authority to mark a project completed. To handle work without prebuilt integrations, the assistant deploys its own virtual cloud computer and browser to interact directly with web interfaces. It shares contextual memory and conversation history with the core Claude platform, eliminating the need to re enter previously shared details.
Anthropic runs the service on top of its Claude Opus 5.5 model. Dedicated applications are available across iOS, Android, and the claude.ai web portal. While Anthropic does not charge an added fee for the tool, background workflows consume standard tier limits from current Pro and Max plans. Expanded availability for Team and Enterprise tiers will arrive later.
